Mission: Ginto finds, collects, and shares information about the accessibility of locations.

People with disabilities need objective and standardised information about the accessibility of locations in order to plan a trip, a visit to a healthcare facility or an evening meal in a restaurant independently. 

Ginto finds, records and shares detailed, structured information on the accessibility of localities, leisure and mobility services. ‘Ginto’ is an abbreviation of the English terms ‘get into’ and means ‘to enter’. The app can be downloaded free of charge and personalised to suit your own needs. All recorded venues are visible and filterable on a map, from hairdressers and physiotherapists to restaurants. Ginto also pools the financial and human resources of various initiatives in order to expand the range of information on accessibility quickly and sustainably. 

Ginto thus makes it easier for people with disabilities to participate in leisure and everyday activities and makes a practical contribution to the implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. 

The first collection of accessibility information with Ginto took place in 2015. Together with the Accessible Switzerland Association, the AccessibilityGuide Association, Pro Infirmis and financial support from the Federal OTice for the Equality of People with Disabilities (EBGB) and various foundations, Ginto has developed into the most comprehensive platform for information on the accessibility of locations in Switzerland.

Ginto provides information on the accessibility of cafés, restaurants, museums, and more. Using a needs profile, Ginto evaluates the accessibility of a location individually and shows you what aids are available and what obstacles you can expect. Is the accessibility information for your hotel, physical therapy practice, or favorite café not yet available on Ginto? With Ginto, you can record it yourself at any time. The app guides you through the process step by step. Diifferent levels of recording allow for both quick and comprehensive collection of accessibility information. In addition to objective information such as door width in centimeters, pictures of the premises and paths on site can also be added. Is an entry incomplete or out of date? Then complete or update the information using the app.

Ginto thrives on information. That's why it's important that this information is expanded and shared. Information on accessibility is shared locally via the venues themselves: Ginto generates a web link for each venue. The information is also available as open data via export interfaces (APIs) for interested individuals and companies in a standardised format and free of charge. The aim is to make information on accessibility available to as many people as possible and to encourage the development of new innovative applications. And thanks to the integration of accessibility information for customers, tourism destinations and search and booking platforms can make their offerings more attractive and inclusive. 

All Ginto applications are available in German, Italian, French, and English.

Ginto is backed by the Sitios Association. It was founded in 2022 by the Accessible Switzerland Association, Pro Infirmis and the AccessibilityGuide Association. Its aim is to coordinate and further develop the provision of information on accessibility in Switzerland. The association is based in Zurich, is tax-exempt and not-for-profit.
